Shorter length tie rods for a AE82 rack? Mon, 04 April 2005 11:50 Go to next message
Hi all,

Does anyone know if tie rods from other model Celicas/Corollas can be used with the AE82 manual steering racks?

Im doing a R&P conversion using the AE82 rack on my RA28.

The AE82 tie rods are too long by about 70mm per side as you can see...

http://www.overclockers.com.au/~mwp/gallery/pic.php?pic=Car%20Work/Mine/Celica%20RA28%20New/2005-04-04%20Measuring%20Up%20AE82%20Rack/dscn4898.jpg&x=640&y=480&cache=1

I would prefer to find a correct length tie rod off another car than get these cut down and re-threaded.

Thanks!

I used RA60 inner rack ends with ke70/ae86 outer tie rods. That ended up the correct length.

The rack ends hopefully are interchangeable on the ae82 rack you have with ra60 ones.

Cheers
Joel

Thanks Joel.

Im going to try and rethread the AE82 tie rods myself (im borrowing the equiptment to do it) then cut them short.

If that fails, ill look into the RA60 tie rods.
