NSW Compliance & Plates Question Mon, 04 April 2005 21:05 Go to next message
Hi,

My rego is up for renewal. The car, being an import, has no compliance plate in the engine bay but I do have a letter, signed by the RTA that says that my vehicle complies to NSW rules blah, blah and all that jazz. On this document is the number plate for my car.

Now, I wish to change the number plates for my car and I am concerned that if I ever have to produce my compliance document it will have different plates than what is on the vehicle. Is this an issue?

Doesn't this letter of compliance have the chassis number listed in addition to the rego? Worst case scenario you may need to contact Toyota's Customer Relationship Centre and request a "letter of compliance".

Hi,

Yes, the compliance letter states both the chassis and engine numbers.

I'll give Toyota Custoemr Relations a call and see what they say. Thanks.

Shouldn't matter, I transfered plates to my car yesterday BEFORE I went for my blue slip... And they were in my dad's name aswell... It should be ok... so long as you can supply heaps of info like VIN and enginenumber and model and year etc...

You'll have to find out...

Hi,

Okay, I just spoke to the NSW RTA and they said it's not a problem, 'cos as you guys have pointed out, the Compliance Document specifies the VIN and engine numbers and there is no wucken furries.

Cool, now I can get my new plates.

Mind you, I feel a little dubious. After having the same plates since 1982 on the car, I'm hoping it's not bad luck to change them (yanno, sorta like the superstitous bad luck when you change the name of a ship).
