Toyota Four Speed Automatic Gearboxes, and Their Required Operation Inputs? Thu, 07 April 2005 04:56 Go to next message
I'm making some initial investigations into the various 4speed auto electronically controlled gearboxes that can be driven by a standard 2JZGE computer.

The factory fitted gearbox that I have is a 30/40LE which I'd happily use, but for the IRS output shaft (I plan to install the 2JZGE and four speed auto into a live axle equipped car) - so am trying to avoid the output shaft headache, by using a box with a standard yoke and uni joint output shaft and tailsahft. Now, at my disposal I have both a 30/40LE (from a Soarer) and a 30/41LE (from a Supra I believe), both of which have the required output shaft configuration - can I simply use either of these boxes, and will the factory computer control them, or is it not that simple?

Can anyone tell me the differences between the the 30/40LE and 30/41LE and which one is beter to use in a general application and why?

I'd like to think my proposition is as simple as bolting the JZA80 Supra 2JZGE and standard computer, to the Soarer 30/40LE box, and have it all work - will I be that lucky, or will God be waiting in the wings to kick me in the balls again?

Pop the rear end of the box off and convert it to a normal output shaft.

That said the UZS131 controller should do it fine.

Oh, and the only difference I know of between the A340E and A341E is the ratios.

I am planning to use my 1990 UZS131 box with a 1994 Soarer loom and ecu (on my 1990 Celsior motor)
Can anyone say bitsa!

EDIT: Oh, and with that loom/tranny combo, 3 out of the 5 plugs just plugged into my autobox.
And the 2 that didn't were the 2 speed sensors, which I will just get from the donor loom.

Not going to happen - different lengths.

Thanks for the site Allan, reading it now and will make some decisions, then come back with more questions!!!

What is different?

What I suggested is what that site says.

As CrUZsida said, you'll find most of the plugs will swap straight over. The only ones that might be different will be the speed sensor ones. You'll then need to swap over the appropriate speed sensors for your ECU.

To be honest, I don't know if the Soarer runs a separate ECT computer for the 2JZGE (but the V8 and 1JZGTE autos don't) so that might be where to look for an easy ECU solution. That said, the most common 2JZGE will be out of a Supra JZA80 so maybe someone with a brain and not interested in fitting shiny body kits from www.supraforums.com.au might be able to tell you if they have a separate ECT. On second thoughts, maybe try ALSC. Laughing

Also, scout thru http://www.autoshop101.com for more info regarding the electronic control of the auto.
