4cyl vs 6cyl in ta22?

Hi
Im trying to decide what engine to put into my ta22.
i have been thinking about using my 4age, but it doesnt really give me the power and torque im looking for, i also been considering using my 2t with a turbo mod, but it doesnt seem like the best idea either.
Im hoping to get an engine with around 160-170hp, so i have been looking at the old supra 6's 5m 7m etc, but how much job is it to drop this into my ta22? is it a whole lot worse than using my 4age?
with a 7m i guess i have the option to use a autotransmission, will this fit the tunnel on my ta22? is the supra autos good trannys? with for example 7m and auto, will my car still be able to burn some serious rubber?. will my diff with 4,11 ratio still be good on a 6cyl, or do i need to get down to 3,9-3,7?
My criterias for engines are, Cheap, easy to get, need to fit my car without enourmos ammount of hours and money.
Feel free to give me some tips and ideas

Hi
That engine would be a good option, but i have never seen one for sale, never even seen one at all here in Norway, so i think it will be nearly impossible to get, unless i import from somewhere else.. and then its not cheap anymore either.
hmm any other good ideas?

Stay away from any 6 if you value handling. A 4AG of some description would be your best bet. I've done a RWD 3SGTE conversion into a 22 but while the results were awesome, it's not what you would call cheap or easy.

4A-GZE would be just the ticket, compact powerful and good torque for its size. You really need something quite small to fit in a TA22 engine bay without a lot of effort, so forget about six cylinder engines if you want a relatively easy swap.

If you were up for the Pepsi challenge, consider one of the Toyota alloy V6s. Otherwise what the lads have already said applies.
|
I have a feeling VN's will be hard to come across in Norway. But good suggestion otherwise.
A 1MZ swap would be the shiznit. If I wasn't already committed to the 18R-G turbo path I'd have a crack at this with my RA23.

Where did you get the Norway snipet from?
Definitely give the 1MZ a looksee - will require some work to convert it to RWD.

You forgot time. Considering how quickly your existing projects are moving, methinks some extra spare time will need to be forthcoming if such a project has any chance of being completed before the end of the decade.

Crown is on the road and the Corona, well, I just need to put the grunter bottom end together......
Believe it or not, I actually feel like I don't have a challenging project at the moment.

As soon as I get my hands on a 1GZ I'll stuff it in an envelope and send it down to you. 700hp NA JZA80 please - that challenging enough for you?

yeah i figured a 1g would be small enough.
if it will fit in a ke30 i'd assume a ta22 wouldn't be too small
