mine uses a bit, but no more than you'd expect from a 100 000km old turbo engine.

when will people stop quoting this nightmare...
if you idle, then take off and a big puff of smoke comes out, it might not be your turbos at all, valve stem seals are known for doing this when they're shot...

Another possibility is that the sump has been changed (from mid to front sump or something), but the original oil dipstick has been kept...and hence reading off the stick shows the correct level, when in fact the sump is massively overfull?
Just a possibility...

Endless wrote on Fri, 08 April 2005 21:59 | My 1jz lets out a puff of smoke occasionaly when idling then when i takeoff the puff comes out , i've found out that my standard turbos are leaking a bit of oil and its burning then coming out of the exhaust - yet my car hasnt used any oil since its last service 3000km's ago!
I've also been recommended that i rebuild / replace the turbos

mine does this, but it also has hybrid turbos and the valve stem seals were done around the same time about 20-30k ago, go figure.

Thanks guys, I dont think i have lost performance at all, but you can smell the oilk burning. So is it a big job, to the valve stem seals?

I dont hink its that hard, a bit time consuming
the place I bought my engine from did them straight away as soon as i bought it. Apparently they do it to all of their 1jz's
