i have a schtocker of as AE86, with 4ac in it.. when i start the ignition it shakes like hell, it wobbles and cant keep an idle properly, it idles very shaky when i feed the gas for a bit longer.. else it just stalls.. theres no power what so ever when i drove it... and i used to hear some mild clicking sound..
could this be a symptom of a blown head gasket? or just needs a new cam belt and new sparkplugs?
cheers you guys,
-dave

what are you morons on about? this is the tech section isnt it? i didn't spot any takumi speak in his post.
dave, check your ignition timing, plugs, plug leads, oil, water check all the usual stuff, i'd suggest just taking it to a mechanic and getting them to take a look at it.

yeah what shiny said
what sort of condition are the engine mounts in? could explain the horrible shaking
lack of power could be bhg, plugs, timing etc

and oh also... heheh i have a small port waiting behind the garage.. would it be worth to hang on the 4ac till it fully dies out or slap on the SP 100kw 4age? so what u think guys? full conversion or small fixation?

to find out which cylinder is dead, just pull each plug lead off one at a time, the one that makes no difference when you pull it off is your dead cylinder.
It could be a blown head gasket, my 4AG had similar symptoms when it blew out the bit between 2 and 3 cylinders, check your compression.

definitely needs a tune up. everythings probably rooted. for a 4ac to run like a ratbag it has been neglected buddy. for a quick check, lift up the dizzy and check you contacts that would be first port of call. then remove leads one by one like sprintah said if that doesnt help then the last simple thing to check is your throttle cable and have a geezer at the carby. get a mechanic to check timing at this point.
to be honest if it is a head gasket the heads probably cracked behind the exhaust valves or between cylinders or something similarly ghey and financially getting a 4ac from a wrecker is you best bet. haha get a diff while your there you might get the only one left in the country that doesnt whine

Check you choke breaker on the carby. I had the same prob, the whole car shook, like it was unbalanced. If I held on the revs for a bit, it warmed up and was fine. It was running to rich when It was cold. I also got balck smoke out the exhaust. Fixed the choke breaker and it solved the problem'

that would probably fix the problem, or at least bring up a host of completely new different problems.
