i remove the faces out of the gauges and just sprayed the whole thing white, and then with a fine brush and some red and black paint, i painted all the numbers by hand, its not hard on the ta22 because the numbers protrude the dial face, but with the ra2X the gauges are completly flat and the numbers are flat on the face, so maybe in this case, JOEL (CLKWRK) might be the best person to talk to, as i was talking to him the other day and he had made a complete stencil kit.

Ok, I've mailed some pics to craig, hopefully he'll have them up soon.
The easiest way to make new gauges is to just print them up on the computer, aslong as you know someone with the program & skills.
I'm happy to help out anyone, but it is pretty simple if you know what you're doing.

Thanks for that mate. What's with the 3rd pic though?
People may notice the toothpick for a needle on the gauges in the 2nd pic, the speedo needle in my car now is the same (should be the 3rd pic), just painted red. I will prolly replace both needles with these.
These uninstalled gauges (2nd pic) are just rough test printouts, I'll be doing final copies with a few changes (prolly change the font, & make the outline circle bigger) and printing it on a couple different types of paper to test it out.
You can see the speedo is already damaged by water on the bottom left of it, I have that tyvek stuff I've already mentioned which is waterproof but I don't know how well it will print on, or high quality photographic printer paper which I don't know how well it will stand up to moisture etc.
The good thing about doing it on computer is once you have it all set out properly, you can change & add things as much as you like.

Just interested to see if anyone has altered their original guages to show a different range of speeds/revs before? so 0-300 instead of 0-220, or 0rpm-12krpm instead of 0-8krpm?
Not that my cressida is safe at 220kph let alone 300...

A mate of mine did mine with Adobe Illustrator. I used a protractor to work out the angles of the increments,
then illustrator has an angle tool which allows you to make a perfect reproduction of the original gauges,
in whatever colour you want.
The other thing you can do, which is what I have done, is rotate the increments so that the needles point
straight down, for the motorbike tacho look.
If the angles between the increments are the same as the original, there's no reason your gauge won't be as
accurate as before. You just need to rotate the needle around uuntill it lines up with the 0 (duh! ),
like this....
(BTW, these are only a rough copy, I do intent to make a few changes to the finals. If anyone wants a copy of these
gauges let me know, you'd have all the angled increments set out then you could simply change fonts & change the little
increment marks to fully customise your gauges. Celica badges on the gauge, a pic of your car, a neked chick ,
whatever took your fancy.)
As some of you may notice, the speedo now goes up to 220, and the tacho goes up to 9 grand........
As far as tachos go, no one makes a 4" white fauce tacho with the needle starting from straight down
that didn't cost a shitload that could be used to replace the standard one, EXCEPT, specos new range of
tachos, but alas, these only rev to 8 grand, which my stock one does anyway. Since my motors standard redline
is around the 7 1/2 grand, I decided it wouldn't do. Instead, I modify my own one for nothing & have the same thing.
Then the redline looked wierd being only for 500 revs, and the scale didn't take up much of the face with
it's new increment positions, so I I added the extra 1000 revs. THE TACHO IS INCAPABLE OF REVVING PAST 8 GRAND,
but I don't plan on revving it past that anyway.
The speedo I just figured it'd be good to add in a few more increments, and it can go well past the original top speed.

i should take a photo of them, when they are lit up, i used NARVA globes in the dash, as they provide a real nice coloured white light and really compliments the new white dials, also a good thing to do when you have the dash out is to get some emery or sand paper and clean all the light globe contacts in the back of the dash circut board, this will help increase power continuity and also insure bright good quality lighting.

YES, i think most people will say the same, but the contacts get dirty on the dash circut and the dimmers start to shit themselfs and everything gets dull, the best thing to try is what i stated in the previous post, clean them up, replace the globes and see how you go, i will organise a night time photo for all to see, the difference is incredable.

yes juzzo is right here, these circuits get very dirty very easily, and are harshly effected by the dirty contacts on the globes and the glugs behind the instument cluster. On my blue RA28 i got the shits with it becuase despite cleaning the contacts the light was as useless as ever... so i got my hands on some 3mm High intensity LED's from the almighty Jaycar and glued them into place.
Exactly what Luke (bugman) is going to do, except i used Red because blue is fvcking expensive.. even at staff prices. And i liked red more!
Ill go home now and get some pics for you guys, its a piece of piss to do if you can solder and wire stuff up. it looks messy behind the dash, but when you have RED DIALS who cares really??

You will need to regulate the voltage to dim LED's. If you just run them through a pot, it will work like a switch, on or off.

to answer all these questions....
Dimmer working - Anthony had the answer... you need to use a voltage reg to maintain the voltage at accetable level... else the LED's just turn off. They are more sensitive to current that voltage with respect to light output.
Mounting: hot glue'd into position. Make sure you use dropping reisitors, around about 500-550 ohms is sufficient, soldered onto the cathode (positive, or longer leg) of the LED. i did as such....
here's an IDEA of what they look like.... digital cameras dont like working without a flash!!
NB: i only used a couple of Leds, cos i didn't know how well they'd work... and after deciding it wasn't enough... i was too lazy to put in more. Also its a good idea to "rough-up" or even flatten off the dome of the LED since they are a focused beam, and flattening them diffuses the light more.
