GZ10 options Sat, 09 April 2005 13:04 Go to next message
i have done a quick search to find some info but didn't really find what i am after.

I own a 5 speed manual GZ10 with a 1g-geu motor (NA 6). I would really like a turbo (as you do) so i though i will just drop in a 1g-gte. But people i ask say if your going to go to all that trouble just throw in a 1j motor.

Now i am aware that the 1j will be a lot more fun however is it going to be a headache and cost me lots to fit? And also is the 1g-gte going to be any better? In a perfect world the 1g-geu will unbolt and the 1g-gte will bolt in, but this is possibly not the case. What are peoples thoughts or knowledge on the matter

Thanks

The best person to speak to would be "Jag7799" I think thats it, he actually has a *Z10 series soarer with a 1JZGTE engine.

a 1GGTE will bolt right up to your engine mounts and your maunal gearbox should bolt right up to one also, then all you really have to worry about is wiring, cooler piping and an exhaust, 1G's will make around 150rwkw reliably on stock turbos so instead of spending upwards of 5K on a 1JZ conversion maybe have a think about the simplicity and cost of a 1GGTE conversion.

Good luck

thats was exactly my feelings/hopes. i have been quoted from a place around $4000 to get it fully swaped with a 1g-gte. i was in one on the weekend with 140rwkw and i thought that was pretty good. it would light up if you puched it in 2nd and i feel much more power then that would make it bad to drive in the wet. I think that was from 11 psi too.

Which goes to the other question. the 1G-GTE motors have steel turbines too don't they?? which would mean that you can boost to 19 psi without much trouble? i think that i would get enough enjoyment out of a gte and it would cost less. I know i would eventually want a bit more power but will that desire subside? i think not

the turbos run out of puff up top at around 15psi so i wouldnt be boosting much past that, of course the desire for more power wont subside unfortunately it never does, but with a big siglee upgrade on the 1G with a good aftermarket computer you could make a fair amount of power, say around the 220-250rwkw mark?

I was originally going to put a 1g gte into my car.. but in the end decided to go with a 1jz.. Im glad I did.. but at the end of the day, a 1g gte is probably enough

was a bit of a headache.. but i paid to get it done. I sourced allt he parts to make it bolt in however.
grip is entirely based on how heavy your foot is, foot flat to floor= spinning wheel through the 1st 3 gears.
that gz20 you went in the other day, id say think of how it wheel spun and double that

like I said, it depends how much money u want for your dollar.
a 1g gte would be good.. best to ask "justcallmefrank" he is almost totally done ona 1g gte into a celica xx which is basically the same.
just remember, your car is about 250-300 kg's lighter than matts gz20 you went in.. so that would add a lot of performance.. just depends how far u wanna go and how much u wanna spend.
