ST165 Sat-Nav and TV Reciever Sat, 09 April 2005 13:40 Go to next message
Hi,
I did not know this but the late series ST165 (88-89) was optional with a sat-nav system installed, and in the one I know about, it has a TV reciever as well.
Does anyone know how to make the sat-nav work in Australia, and/or give me a clue as to how the TV reciever can be made to work as well ?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Mitch.

youd need australian maps loaded onto the system
and the tv reciever would need to be reprogramed for australian frequency if they are different to japan etc

the system could be useless in aust but then again it could be changed to work

Who ever told you they were optional is talking shite.

The only way they were optional was if the owner bought an aftermarket and installed it.
Probably came out of a Lexus LS400 (or Toyota Celsior as they're called in Japan)

Think about it. GPS/ Sat.nav only came out less than 10 years ago.
ST165 is at least 15 years old.

Oh and the Japanese use a different system of TV called NTSC.
OZ uses PAL so it won't work either.

According to this link,

http://www.denso.com.au/dw/satnav/satnav_gen.htm#t op

Denso had in-car navigation systems being fitted since 1987, and sat-nav from 1991. So, I had the title to this post wrong but I found the Denso link afterwards.

The system in the ST165 is a Denso Toyota system.

Granted that Japan uses NTSC while we use PAL.....do you know of anyone who has converted their reciever tuner to pick up PAL in Australia ?

Thanks.
Mitch.
