when rebuilding a piston for the 18rg, i was just wondering, looking side on at the piston, which is considered the number 1 compression ring and which is considered the number 2 compression ring, is it from top to bottom or from bottom to top?
cheers

Top-bottom. No 1 comp. ring is at the top of the piston.
Also ensure that the piston ring itself faces the correct way as there may be variances between manufacturers & it's possible to fit them upside down.
