Hi.
I've been trying to track down why I am running rich and not boosting in my 1G-GZE RA23.
So, I disconnected each sensor in turn to see if it would throw an error code, in-between disconnecting the battery for 60 seconds to clear the ECU.......

First I did the green coolant temp sensor, and it threw what I thought was 22, but there was a long pause between each flash, so I think it is actually 11 - ECU power source. Back to this later......

Brown coolant plug - the cold start injector sensor, did not throw a code, as expected.

Throttle position sensor threw a 41, very nice thank you.

Idle Speed Control Valve did not throw a code.
Crank Angle Sensor did not throw a code.
Knock Sensor did not throw a code.
Oxygen Sensor again did not throw a code.

That's right, every one of these sensors had no effect on the engine light, it just kept flashing every 0.25 seconds continuously.

Thinking I had a code 11, I checked the battery voltage and got 12.25 static and then after 30 seconds after starting it was reading 13.78 / 13.80, so.....

Do I have my ECU earthing through the coolant temp sensor plug or is my wiring screwy somewhere else.....?????

All help appreciated - thanks !

Mitch.

The brown coolant sensor is cold start and has nothing to do with the computer.
The idle speed control valve is an output and has no feedback to computer.
Cam position sensor (I assume crank angle sensor)wont throw a code if you don't try to start it.
Knock sensor you need to run for a bit for it to throw a code.
Oxy sensor needs to be hot to work so wont throw a code for a few mins.
Not sure if this helps but its why you don't always get codes straight away.

MATT.

Thanks Matt.
This does help me a bit - I was hoping I would get a code because I had all these sensors disconnected one at a time, and I started with the coolant temp and that gave me an 11, (no power source to ECU), not a 22 - Water Temp Sensor, so I assumed that the others would do the same, and throw the code and matches the sensor.
I guess, water temp and TPS are checked at start up while the others - oxy, knock and crank angle sensor, need to have run or attempted to run first, before they fling a code.
Anyway - I will keep searching.....
Cheers,
Mitch.

Just a thought all the sensors earth through "E2" .
The computer earths it self through "E1"
make sure these are not connected to each other (common wiring stuff up) this will make it run rich and cost power.
to check this you need to unplug the computer because it will back feed internally.

Matt,
I think you have cracked the Da Vinci code.......my beast does run rich / lose power / and not throw a code.

So, I should be looking to separate the earth points for E1 and E2 to make sure this works ?

Thanks,
Mitch.
