ST162 is the model of the celica 1986-89 i think.
SX version comes with 3SGE (buy the SX version)
ST version comes with the 3SFE (20KW less power - don't buy this version )

Oh and as far as issues go
Power Steering pump leaks (very common, not a real drama)
Gearbox Synchros (2nd gear especially)
Wheel hubs and bearings.
Oil leaks from cam covers (not a big drama, but new seals are pretty hard to locate - if you require the 2 piece seal as i do)
Apart from that and the usual things like rust and previous accident history, these are good cars.
There are always going to be things that need replacing as the car is nearly 20 years old....
Look around and you will find a gem.

Also, make sure the steering rack isn't worn. Way to test it - drive on a bumpy section of road (or even a dirt road) and if you feel the front end rattle thru the wheel then it has a problem. You'll be able to hear it thumping around as well.

nah they fixed that problem. but the liftback models (sx)are common to have water leaks in the boot.check the carpet isn't damp. alos check for rust around the windscreen and sunroof (if it has one)
personally i would look for a lower KM one. its a safer bet it should be in better nick and more reliable as a 1st car.
Also find out who rebuilt the motor, and make sure it was done right.
