2t/3t clarification Sun, 10 April 2005 22:43 Go to next message
The ball is in motion for my engine job...
engine, beefy cams and twin solexs almost ready for purchase....
My mechanic said that he will install it (2tg), give it a port and polish, lighten the flywheel, bore it out and put in a heavy clutch.

My question is, is it necessary to bore it out to 1.8 before putting in 3t pistons/crank, because I heard that you do not bore it out (ie, make it high compression) but just make sure that there is sufficient valve clearance. True or not? Would it be worth boring it out and putting 3t pistons in, or would this defeat the purpose of having high compression.

The other thing....if I do get the 2tg bored out to 1800, can i put 2lt pistons in from 18rg - larger capacity and compression? cheers...

Crok.

boring out your motor wont give you high compression. by modifying and using the 3T pistons and crank you will get 1770cc and over 10:1 compression, which is where the extra power comes from. if you bore it to 89mm (i think) and use custom pistons you end up with almost 2000cc but this leaves very little meat in the cylinder walls. 18RG pistons have been used but its generally not worth the hastle.

cheers mate,

That is my question,
Should i bore it out (ie 1600 - 1800 and use 3t pistons - 2lt
or should i keep it 1600 and just use 3t pistons/crank (1800) higher compression i pressume?

Which would be better from a power output standpoint....the search link down the bottom didn't work either...cheers for added info though.

So in essence, i shouldn't bore it out - likely to cause problems, or
bore it out and get some bigger power outputs?

Cheers,
crok.

do your research mate.

if u want a cheap effective solutions, then just do a 1mm oversize on a 3tc bottom end, use the 3tc crank etc.

you will need the pistons machined for valve clearances with a 2tgeu head.

also u will end up with a fairly high compression, so take that into account when fixing your fuel and ingnition situtation.
