Exhaust wrapping dump pipe

Hey guys,
Just picked up some exhaust wrap to make my under bonnet temps in my JZX100 a little lower but i've hit a snag. I've got a split dump with a separate wastegate pipe that blends into the exhaust about 18" fron the turbo.
Now, the issue i have is i cant for the life of me work out how to wrap the exhaust while its still on the car, so i think taking it off is the way to go. The question i have is: Do i have to take off 90% of the inlet plumbing on the turbo to get to all 5 dump pipe bolts?
Cheers.

No one have any ideas? Tips? I'm thinking that the exhaust shop that did my exhaust must have had an easy way to get to it since the only thing they removed was the exhaust.
I'm going to soak the bolts in wd40 prior to removal (hopefully not snapping them), and if the welds on the inside of the dump are a little rough, should i clean them up with a dremel or something?

the exhauist wrap tape stuff will start to melt at around 500-600C.. if you can see the dump pipe glowing then it is probably too hot.. once the tape melts and forms a solid glass, it won't be so great for insulation
while you have the dump off, why not get it HPC'd?

An exhaust guy I trust told me wrapping the components leads to their premature death,I would also suggest HPC coating for long life as well as heat insulation.Cheers.Pete.

Its not the tape thats adhesive on one side and reflective on the other, the matting weave that stradlater has used. Apparently its good up to 1000 degrees or so.
Stradlater - did you wet the wrap before putting it on? I figure that the wastgate wont get that hot either, but i've got 60 feet of it and i'm pretty sure i'll have some left over, so why not?
HPC was an option, but 1) i've already got the wrap, 2) no on in canberra can HPC it (from my knowledge) and 3) well cause i'd like to do some work on my car!

Yes, you have to wet the wrap before use, if only to stop your hands itching for weeks afterwards from the fibreglass. I think there is a place which can HPC coat stuff in Canberra, but i cant remember their name. They powdercoated my wheels though, if thats any help whatsoever .

the trick is to "wet" it with high temp paint and wrap it over freshly painted pipes

so if you just give the dump pipe a quick spray with high temp paint and then wrap it while it is still wet? This is the best way to do it?
I would have thought that the paint between the metal and the wrap would help prevent premature bad stuff.

i painted the pipes, and then after the tape was dry, i soaked them with high temp paint.. once it had cured (much smoke later ) they seem to be doing well.
the paint is there to stop the fibres from fraying and being vibrated everywhere..
nope the paint on the pipe will not prevent bad stuff... bad stuff is from a) moisture retention, b) keeping the metal at higher temps, c) etc... unless you want to keep them for a few years, don't worry about it.
yup, i wet mine with a spray thingy.. so was only damp. i'd highly recommend wearing gloves AND a dust mask.. fibres in lungs = always bad.
if this is liek the stuff from autospeed http://www.autospeed.com/shop/category_435/browse. html
then it DOES start to melt at around 5-600 degC.. i stuck it into a 1000deg tube furnace to find out what temp it failed at

Hey fellow JZX100 friend,
I havent seen your car around Canberra yet, but my bro has. I know you have seen mine running around
I know of one or two places that can HPC coat it if u want. The under bonnet temp of the JZX100 does get pretty hot, but wrapping the engine pipes wont really help in my opinion. The engines pipes are already very low on the car and sit out of the engine bay. I just had a look at it on mine and I cant see any point to wrapping mine up. It also shortens the life of the pipes, making them more prone to cracking.
We should meet up sometime. Have a JZX100 meet hehehehe
