Hi everyone,
I recently woke up on the marvelous world of modified corollas. I do not know much about anything, but I want to learn! so if this question sound stupid sorry about that.
I recently bought a KE70 in really good condition rustwise and on the inside.
Anyway Its a 4 speed manual (K40). I was did a bit of reserch and it turns out that a KE70 can come in 5 speed too (K50 gearbox) but I see you guys knew that already.
My question is can you change the K40 gear box to a K50 without alering anything on the car like the rear axle or the engine? Or did I have to buy a 5 speed KE70 to start with.
What I mean is can a K50 slot in as easy as chaging a new gear box?
I'd apreciate any help Thanks in advance.

I would assume yes, it should be a straight bolt in. I'm pretty sure the ke70 i have originally came with a k50 box but was switched to a k40 box later so the reverse will be possible too.

yeh he is right but the early k50's like out of the ke30's were different length due to the extensions housing so try and get one out of a ke70 or if u can't find one then use your extensions housing on the ke30 box and it should b all good.

My sisters car a Ke70 started life as a four speed, but my uncles brother who had the car at the time was doing long trips and it reved to high on the freeway so it got converted to five speed. I don't know how it was done but it has been.
