sprinter suspension decisions Mon, 11 April 2005 10:20 Go to next message
ok to start with i dont want to go to extreme/expence of coilovers. i just want reasonable handling.

currently i have lowered king springs no idea what rate but i think they are fairly soft.

im looking at maybe TOKICO HP shocks or KYB GR-2 shocks, (can sujest a localy supplied equivilant shock? - im not particularily phased by the has to be jap mentality, but if they are better obviosly ill pick them)

finaly if i was to order this from the states would parts to suit a TOYOTA COROLLA AE86 GTS SR5 84 - 87, suit my aus delivered 1983 ae86 sprinter?

Personally, for normal road use, I find King lows plus a reasonable shock (I had Monroe GT gas, ok, but not great) are fine. But if you want to drift/track race the car, then they won't cut the mustard.

Yes, sprinters were called Corolla GTSs in the US, so parts will fit. I think they basically got what we would call a JDM sprinter, bet I'm sure the purists will point out the myriad differences.

I'll point out one - the, er, left hand drive Very Happy

Monroe Gas = bogan shocks. You use them to get a RWC on a piece of crap XF Falcon or something, but they're not too much use for anything else...

ya read the FAQ and did a search but everything i found related to coilovers. the ae86 differnces FAQ thread mentioned nothing about suspension so i thought id check.

so are the TOKICO HP's a good shock? or should i keep looking?

Oi, ease off on the Monroes, my bogan-spec sprinter must be fully hektik cos its equipped with them.

Monroe GT gas were cheap and a lot better than stock and have done well in my drift career so far.
