Stupid question, but worth a shot: Will AE82 wiring connect up to AE86?

I am currently pulling a 4AG-E out of and AE82 twinky, and I removed all the wiring yesterday, and just unplugged everything from the car, leaving everything still connected to the ECU, and it all looks like it would just connect straigt up to the same spots in the AE86, I was just wondering if I have any chance of doing this, or am I waisting my time trying?
Sorry for the stupid question, but I figured I might as well find out any way.
Thanks for any info.

Nope, you need to do some cutting and splicing of wires. Adding some relays etc.

However, AE86 have approximately bugger all wires going to the engine (handful to the alternator, a few to sensors, a couple to the starter). So if you just study how the AE82 wiring works and transplant it into the AE86 there is very little to worry about.
You hook the AE82 loom up to the engine (including all relays and fuses it needs) and leave the AE86 wiring as is. There is not much of the AE82 engine wiring that needs splicing into the body wiring. A few things will need power/acc power etc, but not much.

PS, These are my thoughts after wiring up an aftermarket ECU, a factory one may differ slightly.

AM is so much easier than factory from my recollections. Factory AE86 isnt hard by any stretch, but has a few more confusing wires.
