Has anyone built a strong 1jz? I mean with forged pistons and rods (JE/Crower) if so where did you get your parts form and prices as I am having no luck trying to find any here in NZ as not many people are playing round with this engine yet, as I want to rebuild my spare motor

I guess the question is why rebuild .they are good for 800H.p on stock internals . But if you must rebuild i have had quotes
pistons----ross racing----$1500.....1000 h.p items
if you want better than this budget on $3,000 ++
rods ------argo custom ----$1500....unbreakable
crank job------whoever-----$500
bearings gaskets seals etc $800
head gasket $350 --H.p metal job
labour $500-$1,000 depends who
then your lookin at head work up to $1,000
cams and cam wheels $1,000
and thats wihtout even considering modifying oil distribution and adding steam bleeds to the head
i would budget on at least $10,000
if you go any less serious than this you might as well stick to a stock engine do rings bearings and get the pistons HPC coated

Thanks for the info, those are the prices I am prepared to pay (nothing comes cheap if you want it to last) The reason being that I have the late model VVT-i Motor with 9.1 comp and was looking to drop that back to 8-8.5-1, so I can run a bit more boost, not so worried about low down drivebilty, but if you think they are that strong, I might just freshen up my spare twin turbo motor and drop that in if I manage to break my current motor.
Cheers
James
P.S If you don't mind me asking where were those prices from, do you have a contact number?

If you must. shotpeen the rods and use ARP rod bolts. Relatively cheap and easy to do whilst you have the donk in bits. Not sure what the 1J rods look like, but there might be some room for lightening them. If they are anything like the 2JZ rods, the std items should be good for 8500 rpm.
Some of the prices above look a little lean too. Argo rods for a 6 are a little more than that, and the price quoted for headwork is very favorable (of course it depends how far you want to go).

Yeah that's more like it....my quote was around that + GST! But I do agree, for a 'serious engine', I'd plan on packing away 10K.

I appreciate the similarites between the rb26 and the 1j as I have an R32 GTR in the garage as well (Didn't want to put that on my signature didn't know how well it would go down!) and have already had that rebuilt with JE/Crower combo. Do you have a contact number/person for ARGO because at 1860+gst for a set of rods I would like to buy a set
