Engine Crossmember Measurements Wed, 13 April 2005 01:30 Go to next message
I was exploring the possibility of using the crossmember out of another car in the effort to convert to rack and pinion steering (would then enable the fitment of a 1JZ-GTE with stock turbos to a MX62 cressida, currently I think the steering box will foul the turbos, tho I am not 100% sure. I haven't checked). Better steering response would also be achieved, and perhaps a reduction in the currently horrendous number of turns lock to lock.

As such I have taken measurements of a MX62 cressida engine crossmember, I was hoping that we could create a "tech depositary" of types if everyone that has access to a crossmember could take a picture and add some measurements. It would also allow people to identify unknown crossmembers in the future Smile

This is MA61

I'll remeasure it soon, and update the pic, as I think the front and rear side to side is different.

Wilbo666, I think main problem you'll have is finding one where the control arm pivot points are only 535mm apart. Most are 600 and over.. Guess would give you more track width Smile

Sure you got that measurement correct? Even the RA28 celica is 560mm apart.

Pretty sure I got the measurement correct, as correct as I can be with a tape measure! I've remeasured it many times as quite a few people are doubting my abilities with a tape measure Confused (agreed I can be quite retarded at times Smile).

Cheers
