Hey guys,
My JZA70 Supra's heater doesn't work.. the air con works great but that isn't going to do me much good when Canberra's winter kicks in!
Now before I hand it over to someone who's going to charge me an absolute fortune to fix I'd like to do some of my own troubleshooting..(please don't be the core!! )
I've had a look around and I can't find any info on what I should look foor. So any info would be great (pics will be awesome! )
The Supra has a climate control unit in it. Any help would be awsome, if you need some mroe info just ask and I'll try and help out as much as I can. I've never had to deal with a problem like this before.
Cheers
-Andrew

first of all, is there any warm air coming through the vent at all.
1) you will need to find the HEATER TAP in the engine bay, it will be in between the heater pipes and the firewall. get a mate to switch from cold to hot (with engine on) and watch to see if the tap moves. this will tell you if hot water is going into the core.
if its not moving then you need to track down why.....is it vacumn or cable operated? if its vacumn then listen for a leak (it will be a whistle)
if its cable then you will need to find the break in the cable.
2) if the tap is working ok then check for coolant leaking at the core (god i hope not!). the carpet will be wet and you will be able to smell the coolant.
3)the climate control system may have a vacumn leak under the dash (commodores do this all the time) preventing the system to switch to hot. or the climate control could be not working at all???
sorry bout the long winded message, but ive had to do this a my work heaps of times and these are the first steps i do....

on the climate control, push the switch to the hot side and hold there hard! then see if hot air comes out of the vents. If so you have a bad connection within the heater module/climate control box.
Mine is the same, plus the vaccuum switch on the firewall wasn't getting any vacuum to open it up, so i rerouted another vacuum hose to it so it's always on.
Anyway i'm imensly happy i have my heaters working right now that it's winter in TASMANIA! :(-

yeah my problem persists, and after putting another heater control module in there is no change, so i played with the wiring connecter and low and behold it's a realy slight but dodgy wiring connection. Which makes sense as sometimes i could hear the heater motors doing things when i was driving. Slight bumos in the road would cuase this. Time to find the culprit, or i might even hardwire it so i just have the heater on all the time, i'll fix it properly when i g et my half cut.

Ok i spent 2 weeks with half my dask out of my car. I know there is a few things in the list that have already been covered but this what i have done.
1. Push climate control to hot and test the plug the heater vsv for current using test light. If there is no current there then in my case the heater control unit was dead. Also with mine if the control unit isnt working it will not open the vent to pass air though the core. This is hard to cleck with out pulling out the aircon cradle out of the system. I did anyway to clean leaves etc out.
2.If u do have current there then check that the vsv is working. You can by pass the vsv which i have done by either connecting a vaccum hose directly or unpluging it depending on heater tap.
3. Check heater tap to make sure that it is not jamed. (Falcon one fits well as replacement)
Any question feel free to pm me, hope this helps
