Heres the story, I have a '78 mod 5 series BMW (e12 528i) the thing weighs round about 1400 - 1500 kgs. Now I have a 1G thats going in it (b4 you say get a 1J, trust me I looked at doing that and it is just too big, would fit if I cut firewall and stuff witch I dont wanna have to do)
I what the thing to look good andgo just aswell.
my 1st question is turbos, ATM I'm thinking single GT30, but still like the twin idea, any thoughts?
2ndly I want to get a cam for it to makeit sound mean, any idea where to get one or who does them?
3rdly metal head gaskets can you get them easily? ifso where? do i really deed to worry want to run from bout 15 to 18 psi all day.
and lastly I have heard about the HKS stroker kit (2g gte 2.4L) are they worth it? can you get other kits? or whats in them? can the samething be done with a custom kit.
any Info will be great
cheers
Josh

Maybe just a GT25? Or even a T04 of some variation?
I'm sure you get get cams done... but it really depends on how far you are taking it - and how much you have to spend. Aftermarket computer is essential, the stock computer is ok with a stock setup, but it can be so much better.

Although I don't have first hand experience, the general opinion of toymodders seems to be that most are very good, and in the end they are only as good as the person tuning them.
Microtech (I think) are a local brand, maybe a good option!

1: Go for something like a GT2540 have been proven on similar engines like the RB20 to make boost very early and pull all the way to the redline with around 250rwkw
2: HKS make cams for the 1GGTE but they are hard to come by second hand and very expensive brand new
3: Call ridgecrest, they do metal headgaskets gaskets in any thickness for about $140
as for the 2GGTE stroker kit, well they fall into the same category as the cams...very hard to come by second hand and cost a mint brand new.
hope this helps

Well then, go nuts with custom made parts, 300° cams and all that crazy stuff that'll make the car less driveable until it gets up into the rev range... and make sure it can see 10,000rpm

Ivan Tighe(sp?) can regrind your cams but it's like $1200 for both.
get a High Flowed T03/T04 Hybrid for your 1G.
Thats what I use on mine and its awesome!

never driven a stock twin turbo one.
but considering the T03 exhaust section of the turbo (off VL turbo) came off a 3 litre engine (1G-GTE is 2 of course so it's already a big turbo for the engine) and the intake side is a T04 and the turbo has been highflowed would make an absolutely massive difference on a 2 litre engine that came stock with 2 shitty little turboes. no offence to stock turbo lovers hehe

hey buddy great conversion
i am surprised a 1j wont fit as i have done a similar conversion for a sports sedan
i used a 1jz and it vertually went straight into an e21! 323i all i had to do was use the front sump and fab some mounts didnt touch the firewall at all save for a verry little tickle with a hammer on the tunnel at the starter motor. i even made room for a pully on the front and run a vortech supercharger
i am considering a similar conversion to my e30 road car but the 1j will be too tight a fit so want to use a 1gg instead,
do you have any dimensions for the 1gg ie, length of the block? and total length? where is the sump?
i use a wolf 3d and would recomend them all the way as the 3Dplus can run 6 full sequential coils with the std ignighter and can be easily configoured for any std crank and cam triggers plus it has a hand controller and also far better resolution with many superiour functions to any of the other cheep ecu's, bonus is the plug in cartridge to store your map for different engines etc i use the same ecu for the race car and road car takes 2 min to transfer the map
good luck

1JZ racing, how much power does your 1JZ make running a supercharger instead of the turbos, I have thought about doing this if I could get the motor to make around 250-260rwkw, is it possible running an SC?
