Anyone here ever had problems with their Soarer MZ20?? I was also wondering if the car is a 1989 model, would it need an overhaul by now?? Thinking of getting one but because its so old, i'm afraid of reliability. Anyone has any comments??

well... the 7M engines usually require head gasket replacement at some point in there life, not sure of anything else...
I own a GZ20 soarer and I can tell you the build quality of the car itself is awesome and mine other than some scuffing on the paint is still a very nice driving car...
Mine is the 1G-GTE engine so i'll stop here and let the experts with 7M's help you out.
But mine is still holding together really well. Feels very solid.

I'm not too worried bout the chasis and body, more worried bout the engine. Can the block and internals still take it after 14/15 years??

Would like to hear experiences from you guys that have 7M-GTE's. Wanna get one soon, and just wanna find out some pros and cons about the car.

as theyve been telling you, the headgaskets on these cars are pure shit. if yuo want a trouble free permanant (or pretty much permanant) soloution, a metal headgasket will solve the problem, or getting the block O ringed will have the same effect.
these cars are great, although the lack of manuals is a downfall..
pretty much the only thing shitty about the 7M is the headgaskets, they are very very good engines.

When I got my 7M, I replaced the headgasket with a standard item and made sure the head was machine dead straight. Re-used the old headbolts and torqued it down to 76ft/lbs? *from memory* and after 6 months of absolute abuse, its holding up remarkably well. I'm not saying its going to hold like this permanently, but by torquing up the headbolts down properly, rather than the factory crap settings, the life of the headgasket can be prolonged substantially.

Alright, that pretty much answers my question. Anyone know any workshops in Melbourne that'll work with 7M's?
