Witzle is right, but maybe some more details would help.
Each cam has a 5mm wide notch out of its thrush flange. This is the timing mark indicated by The Witzl.
At TDC for cylinder no.1 both the notches on the intake and the exhaust cam should be in the 12:00 position, ie. exactly vertical.
I assume you know how to use the timing pin and the adjustable timing cog so I won't explain that.
If you need to know any tightening torques, let me know which ones and I'll check the book.

my 18R-G is acting like is has a rev limiter, it stops revving at about 5600rpm, as well as being sluggish in low revvs, i'm guessing it's the distributor, which is a twin point malory with no vacuum advance. i know it's not fuel and not restrictive air filters. anybody got any advice?
i was gonna machine a new dizzy housing with vacuum advance to better the ignition timing control.

might be easier to get a 18GUE igniter - comes with vacuum advance plus pickup to drive an igniter.

i live in tassie, 18R-G parts are very scarce and don't come cheap, plus i'm an apprentice fitter/turner, so making my own will be easier and it'll give me something to do in spare time.
