 mk2 supra - differences?

i am just curious to know... what models have the flares? and what other differences are there? all the celica XX's i have seen dont have flares, but are still supras..?

Mk2 Supras came out in basically two forms.
The export version with the flares came with the 5ME (in Aus) and the 5MGE.
The XX was the JDM version. It had no flares, sometimes a few little extra nick-nacks, and either the 1GEU, 1GGE, MTEU or the 5MGE. Also has different rear bumper, different front bar, different tail lights...umm, thats about it.

Apart from the body (thats the most obvious bit), the model codes may be GA61 as that is the 1G models, or MA63 is usually only the MTEU.
You occasionally see different diffs, I have seen one with T-series IRS.
There are other nick nacks like a one touch button for the drivers side window, and there are little lap warning labels in the door panels.

If the car is actually labelled "Celica Supra", it's almost certainly a locally-delivered model. The local models come with pretty much every option as standard (including the flares, wide wheels, sports seats etc) but with the crap 5M-E engine.
If the car is labelled "Celica XX", it's an import. Most imports come without the bodykit etc, and generally look poxy. On the plus side they sometimes come with a better engine (eg 5M-GE).

Ahh true, one of my poxy XX wrecks had the Celica seats in them...its just like some versions of the new Evo 7...you get a crazy car, with real hard suspension and shit...with normal Cedia seats???
