Couple of Soarer questions

Ok, first one. Occasionally, whenever runnig more than stock boost it hits a cut off, and an orange warning light shows up on the dash. This stays on for a few seconds then goes off. It doesnt happen all the time, sometimes it will run fine at a cretain amount, then another day, at the same level, it will cut out. Whats going on there??
Second, my car has kinda half the exhaust done. Its 3" off the stock Y piece, untill it sits just under the car, then it goes to something like a 1.75 - 2.25 pipe with a cat (dodgy compliance place peoples) then its 2.5" where it splits into 2. Should i replace that small bit of pipe and cat with 3" now? I know its a stupid question but is it worth it, or should I spend the cash elsewhere??? Will there be any noticeable difference?

Have you played with the boost settings, cos on mine with a 3" exhaust from the factory Y pipe to twin mufflers, it peaks close to 13 psi (cutoff is 14.7). I imagine you are hitting boost cut on really cold nights ? Cos this is when spiking occurs most.

Boost is set at 11 psi. It doesnt happen all that often. Sometimes it will run fine for a few weeks, then out of nowhere it will happen once or twice. Happens in all kind of conditions too. Hot days, cold nights etc....

You are hitting boost cut-no question about it.You require a boost cut lifter.
replacing that skinny part of exhaust and cat will give a very worthwhile power gain.

Which orange warning light buddy?, let me know, and I will check it out in my Soarer manuals.
If it looks like a small muffler with wavy lines above it, that is your cat overheat light, and can operate when fuel cut leans out the exhaust flow!

It's odd that you are hitting boost cut and are running lower boost than me. My boost level after is stops spiking is 12psi.
Never have I hit boost limit in my car.
Tis a weird one.
Cheapest boost cut remover is a diode inline with the MAP sensor.

Its not the red one that looks like a muffler, its the one underneath it. Its a sort of weird shape, with a small flat line at the top, and one on the side as well, and it lights up orange.

however,if you were leaning out,the exhaust would become very hot, possibly triggering the overheat sensor.perhaps get your air/fuel ratios checked by a mechanic.

Is it perhaps a function of the really nasty exhaust piece building up too much heat in the exhaust?

OK, replaced that part of the exhaust, and everything was all fine. Ran perfect with stock boost or 12psi. Turned it down to 10psi and been driving all week without a problem until today. Didnt floor it, just gave it a little. Exhaust light came on, and engine cuts. So, any more ideas?

Intermittent fault in the MAP sensor ?
Clutching at straws now. It's a weird one indeed.
