Adjustable Cam Gears

Hey all. Just a simple question. If I were to get a stand alone ecu and have it properly tuned, is it redundant to get a set of adjustable cam gears as well? Don't cam gears retard/advance the ignition but isn't this what a tuned ecu would do anyway? Cheers guys.
Eddie.

No cam gears retard/advance the cam timing not the ignition timing... (although I think that they will inadvertantely change the ignition timing as you will be putting dizzy out when you adjust the cam's )

ahh so it can create mechanical overlap of the cams that an ecu can't do then? Would people recommend using both aftermarket ecu and cam gears together then?
