A link to the CAMS system page?? I dunno?

Damn, the rules on Nations Cup must be pretty damn flexible! The only thing Monaro about that car is the shell!
7l V8 from Corvette LeMans Car
6-speed Hollinger gearbox
Ford 9" Rear Diff
Okay, so the engine will be put in a car for next year, but how to you justify the trick gearbox and replacing the IRS with live-axle. Isn't this a production car race!

HSV_gal wrote on Mon, 18 November 2002 08:35 | honestly guys,
Holden never intended the new Monaro for racing, and it was thrown in the 24 hr race to see the reaction of the fans more than anything...
I guess it just shows what they can do.
|
Yeah it was just thrown in after several engine configurations were tested, various inlet manifolds, cams etc were designed and tested. The complete rear suspension including sub frame was redesigned and completely fabricated by Harrop and the shell was prepared past V8 Supercar specs!!
Of course they wouldn't have bothered if the Diablo and F360 hadn't been nobbled severely to ensure there was no decent competition.
Shows how deficient the design of the 5.7 litre engine is that they went to so much expense to use the 7 litre.

The Monaro wasn't modified, it is a purpose built race car. Only the roof, doors and glass are production items. It is as similar to a road car as a Sports Sedan race car is to a road car.
It's very disappointing that the Diablo was nobbled so much because of it's success that the team pulled out of the race and probably Nations Cup for good. That car is closer to a road car than the Monaro is.
Now they have allowed the Monaro to race I hope they will either remove the restrictions on the Ferrari N-GT and Diablo or restrict the Monaro to the same degree as the other cars.
If this doesn't happen we'll end up with another series running Ford and Holden badges on purpose built race cars pretending to be the same type of car that you can buy at a dealer.

Every other car in the race was pretty much standard. That's sorta the idea of the race.
That's why Holden will be selling the 427 monaro, because you can go & buy it (one day) it's "no longer a race car". Pffft.

You don't think they'll be able to sell 50?
And I thought it would be part of letting it race. If they don't bring it out then Holden sux even harder for purpose building a race car for a production car race & not even selling the obligatory 50 or so required for the car to comply as a production car.

ok - so if holden can bring out a one off ( for now ) 427 powered monaro - does that mean FORD can enter a 429 boss V8 powered falcon GT , with 2 doors , and v8 supercar running gear for next years race ??
I mean they would only need to say they are going to do 50 only for homoligation purposes and they would be sweet !
now looking at after race the monaro was over half a second faster than the porsche car - and seeing it fell into proper lemans type rules - the pairing was a bit uneven - really
a race prepped 300 KW monaro GTS with good brakes and managemebnt would have been more logical if they wanted to show the proper nature of Gt production cars
On another note i did see a te50 from ford placed within the top twn - which isnt too bad considering what it was up against and seeing the falcon was running Gt production spec gear ..
One thing i did miss was the supra ?? WHERES THE SUPRA !!

Stuart,
I don't know the rules and regs of the race,so I couldn't say, but if it fits in with those I really don;t see why it wouldn't be allowed in the race.

Porche probably would have killed the monaro as they had a race preped car themselves but it was crashed and written off during practise.
They were forced to enter a production GT3 in its place which wasn't up to some of the other cars.
Holden weren't the only ones who entered cars far from production specs....
Can anyone confirm the rules of this class of racing?
