that they weigh 1800kg and the V12 was replaced later by the 4.4l v8 that the current generation v8's are edrived from and that they sold very few in aus cos they were too expensive and not fast enough cos of there large mass. Decent car though although some examples still float around in the 60K range. I think they were auto only though.

nmmmm - I'm imagining that car minus most of the luxury fitments, with a mercedes 600bhp supercharged V8 in it. then it would be horny and stupid-fast.

yep, I'm thinking taking 300+kg off that would be no trouble at all. I'd start with the heated/vibrating/stupid-adjustable/extra-cushy/bar gearsed seats, which are most likely 50+kgs each. and those reverse sensors - they scream "I cannot drive"

this is the very engine i was looking to buy about 12months ago. VERY VERY VERY expensive to rebuild, but can put out a very lazt 450hp with no fuss. +500hp with the very least of effort

$500 for one from a burnt out bay (the 850i has engine bay/electrical fire problems )

and the sump and mounts fit up well in an ma61 bay

Well, draven you're right about the merc supercharged V8s being fast.Workmate took me for a fang in an SL55 yuesterday(im not allowed to drive the AMG's or CLKs yet coz of insurance reasons). They are soooooo farkin quick and they just push you back in your seat so bloody hard. With traction control you spint he wheels easily enough and without its just ridiculous how soft you have to accelerate through sharp turns and U turns. Iw ant one but im really hanging to go for a spin in the SL65 AMG bi0turbo V12 with 1000Nm of torque and about 600hp.

I love working for mercedes!!!

Ed, there are fully rebuilt ones on ebay for about US$5K, which is arguably not bad.... compared to sourcing a 1GZ-FE?

at the end of the day it's still only 5L capacity but still

apparently there was a guy trying to run one with Megasquirt.. was going to have two in 6 cyl mode, just like the original computers.. (bar the main one that talks between the two engine ECU's)

my GT4 race car is better, mind you, it is fictional... although it has no issues with seeing the higher side of a 17k RPM redline
