hey guys after much soul searching, and not a lot of much else. I am still looking to do a decent engine conversion into my KE20. i have no idea what to do though. I was thinking of a 4age/ 4agze but as i dont know much i cant do hardly any of the stuff myself so the costs were starting to escalate. Now im thinking of efi on a 5k and supercharging it, not only for the price factor but also for something different. Anyways im after all opinions on what to put into it, i have $4000 to put it in and have it running. all help appreciated, as long as you dont bag me out.

sell the ke20 and buy one thas already converted much cheaper as the other person loses all the costs of the conversion, honest unless you can do all the work yourself you will be pushing to find a conversion for 4K.

you might be able to do a decent conversion for around 4K or a bit more, but then u have to allow teething problems. Depending on the condition of motor u are installing. The only way u could do it was to get your hands on a 4age/gze with a t50 converted to RWD already. For a decent price that is. I suggest if you know anyone that could convert an engine swap like this you get them to do it as most places these days have high labour costs, and you probably wouldnt be able to get away with it hitting the 4 grand mark. And if theres anything u can do get in there and do it which could save u a bit more $$$.
Or theres the other option of selling your car and getting a KE20 already eqipped with a 4age.
I know Geoff KE20corolla has 1 for sale in the forums with a 100kw i think, u should look at sumthing like that as it would of costed quite a bit for the conversion

your ke20 is without a doubt the easiest car in the world to learn and work on. Save money, time and hassle by buying a workshop manual and doing a simple 5K and 5 speed bolt in yourself.
your mechanical confidence will grow and you can then focus on learning how to set up a supercharger (by learning i mean researching not asking questions on here and being spoon fed).

I'd also recommend going with a K motor - the fact that it will bolt in with just spanner work makes it an approachable project for a first-time conversion. The K swap should involve nothing you can't do/learn in your garage with basic tools (no grinder, welder, etc.) If the 5K is not EFI from stock, perhaps you could install it and get it running first, then attack EFI (more complex than the physical install) at your own pace after.
It will also foster skills and confidence that could be applied to future projects.
I think that if you go for a fuel injected motor not initially designed for the car then costs will escalate beyond your budget pretty quickly, especially if paying workshop labour rates (ie. $77/hr) to do the work for you.
