the day i went to see it i managed to jam my finger in the door gap of a ba falcon, later that night i went on a blind date with a minger and had to sit thru this movie...
the movie was average, had its moments, but also it was trying to be scary in parts it clearly wasn't.

Hmm mkay. Sounds like your finger damage and blind date was scarier for you than the movie. . .
I'm not really freaked at all by movies a lot of people think are scary but those Jap spook flicks get me every time.

I still think it was the freakiest movie i've ever seen, not really scary, more freaky, im yet to come across a better horror tho. Amityville was a massive let down, not scary in the slightest.

The most disturbing movie I have seen of late was "Saw". Pretty wrong and a very interesting twist at the end.
You finish watching the movie thinking "who the hell thinks up that f$%ked up shit!"
I recommend it, not one for the youngens though.

if you didnt understand the storyline of the grudge perhaps you had the language dubbed in french? It was pretty easy to follow.
I liked it, it was spooky, freaky and has some good suspense. For a sheer "lets just enjoy 2 hours" type movie, i rate it. For a movie that you want to read into and thing about for hours after, like most horror movies it has nothing.
The Ring, and The Ring 2 are both up there on my scariest list. I thought I kind of cheated by watching the Japanese Ring 2 first, but it was quite different to the Hollywood version.... and scary in a much more suspenseful and freaky way.
The Ring 2 lived up to all the expectations of the original Ring, and kept a very high level of suspense right through the movie, starting a mere 60 seconds into the film!!
I just LOVE the way that they make Sadako/Samara climb and move in the Ring movies, its freaky as!!
I rate the ring series: 4 stars.
Now if we want the best EVAH entertainment from a Horror movie.... there can be only one....

Well I havent't seen the remake of the Grudge, I have seen the original and its sequel.
While they weren't actually scary, they were very eerie, and let off bad vibes O_o
I've also seen all the Ring movies and their US remakes. The originals were good in their story, but I found the remake of the first to be just a carbon copy, and the second US Ring movie just sucked ass.
Then last Tuesday I went and saw the remake of The Amityville Horror. That I found to be pretty good. It has it's moments where a good scare will pop out when you last expected it. But still, you can't get your head around the Simpsoons Treehouse of Horror ep that is making fun of it. It's still one the better horror movies that I've seen in a while.
Also, another Jap horror movie to note would be "Audition", if you haven't seen it. Another of the psychological horror movie that is very, very disturbing to watch, especially the ending. If you get a chance to watch it, do it!

House of 1000 Corpses was not scary! I thought it was the shittiest of shit movies I have ever seen, in fact I reckon it's worse than the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre - and that movie was DAMN boring, by the end I was backing for Leatherface in the vain hope he might shut that stupid heroin junkie up so I didn't have to listen to her shrieking any longer.
I mean for effs sake - screaming isn't going to do squat, if it didn't work for the FIRST ten minutes straight, then why go for another ten minutes expecting different results? And then another ten minutes after that???
Damn stupid slut.
Anyway, back on topic.
I give Army of Darkness 4 stars
And is it just me, or is there a big chunk missing out of the 'original' japanese version of the Ring that came out on DVD in Oz? I remember seeing a copy that a friend got from HK and there was this huge segment where they go into the background of the character (Sadako?) and her family....wierd. Something to do with Thailand I think?! Maybe that was the sequel...there's too many Ring/Grudge movies out there anyway

Yeah, 'the ring' in the original versions was scary/eerie as fuck! Depends on how you define 'scary'. For me it means feeling a little disturbed while watching, eg something is not quite right. I can watch countless American movies like Friday the 13th (not that I do though) and be mildly entertained and occasionally have a giggle or two. The old heads coming off and slipping round on the guts thing is not that scary at all.

I'd agree with that. Like have you all seen both the Final Destination movies? That's all them movies are really about, killing off the characters in the movie in a glorified and really, really cool manner Also, it just happen that both the movies were actually really good in terms of story, (cept the second, that was a bit lamer) but they weren't actually scary movies. It was about the ingenious ways on how people came to their demise.

Saw was good, but i didnt find it scary - awesome twists though
The grudge i found was disappointing, i expected it to be better but like someone else said here it had its moments, but tried too hard
The Ring i have to say was the only movie that i actuali let out a little "aahh" in wen that freaky ass dead chick decides to move 3 metres in a blink of an eye.
Yet to see Ring 2, have to borrow that off a mate on DVD
House of 1000 corpses...now...W.T.F - i have to say this movie was the most f$#@ed up movie i have ever seen, the story line was f$#(ed and the people were f#@!ed..sorry for the language but during this whole movie i really couldnt figure out wat kind of sik bastard would think of a movie like this.
But either way i still recommend watching all these movies guys, next on my list to see is "The Amatyvile Horror" and some other movie that looked scary in the previews, forgot name
My 2 cents

Also I think the movie has been in the states for a while ago, cus I remember I seeing Michael Keaton on Letterman a while back, and it was the only reson I heard of the movie. But now it's finally being released here, meh O_o

I didn't think the ring was scary/freaky at all, the only thing weird about it was the way samara climbs up the wall of the well, all spider death-ness. Well i saw darkness falls again and it wasn't as scary as i remembered it unfortunately. Did the movie DUEL scare anyone else?

It wasn't freaky or anything it just gave me butterflys when he started sawing his leg off thats all, including sum of the effed up crap he got them other victims to do. I rate it. Great acting. I couldnt get to sleep though after i watched it, its just one of those ones that keeps ya thinkin.

Evil Dead 3 - teh Ash can nevah lose!!!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - the original did have lots of screaming/boring flat spots, and I was just waiting for that fat f*ck in the wheelchair to cop it! I cheered when his complaining ceased thanks to the chainsaw of leatherface.
Not that scary, but rather sick is a film called "The Necromonicon" (or similar) that had three short stories from the (H.P Lovecraft?) book. Just awful.
I thought Gremlins was scary when I was a little kid and had nightmares about it for weeks.

yep original texas chainsaw massacre is ok, far more intense than the remake. That bit where they were sitting at the dinner table and that old guy that looks dead sucking that girls fingers was fukked! Evil Dead series is hilarious. Especially Evil Dead 1. The sound effects in that movie are so fkn hilarious. Especially when the guy opens the cupboard and theres a chainsaw in there and its not even turned on and all u hear is chainsaw noises. There are so many funny sound effects, i've cried so many tears of laughter in that movie. I just have to look at the cover of Evil Dead 2 and i break down in lahgter. what were they thinkin when they made it, as draven says is it a comedy??
