Note that the original poster is from Darwin, so that link from a NSW government web site probably isn't relevant...

That is a very good point Norbie, and being that vast sections of NT have no speed limit. What are the chances they have any rules for engine swaps, you may as well drop a 13B turbo in there and be happy!

come on fellas we do have rules just like you do (only ours are more relaxed more than yours *alot*)
I have been told to go and look up the laws, but it looks a lot more hopeful than it did that i can do the conversion.

Just keep in mind that the 4AGZE has never passed an emissions test in Australia, so they have no idea what mixtures the GZE puts out. Could pose a problem for you in the future (if you are unlucky). I would hate for someone to go through what I am going through!!!

For all i know, if the car come out with polution gear, you can't replace the engine with something without polution gear... and if you put in a motor that is supposed to have emmission control, it must be set up... keeps the hippies happy (kidding). so just keep that in mind. but then, if like me the nice sticker on the timing cover says 18rgeu, (U) means emmission stuff) then they don't seem to even check wether the emmision stuff is in place (despite the fact my car doesn't even have injection but transport guys just have not much idea). Queensland is great.

In SA they say that a car older than 1984 must have an engine from after 1976 (introduction of emmission controls)
The new engine must have all emission stuff that it originally came with.
But for import engines the inspection team couldn't tell us what the engine had to have on it as they didn't know.
