Check engine light DOES work.

I decided to put the ECU back into it's rightful place (behind the dash) and started up the car after everything was back in place. Noticed that the engine light began flashing (pulsing: on for 2 seconds, off for two seconds, repetitively). No apparent code to it, just this flashing light.
1) Does the ECU require an earth point (like where it bolts to above the tranny tunnel) in order to get the engine light to work?
2) Anyone know what that 2 seconds on, 2 seconds off code would be?
Thanks,
Andrew.

That is not a normal engine error code, are you sure you don't have a flash then about 2 seconds then a flash, then 4-5 seconds then repeat ?
If you do have this, its code 11, ECU power interruption.
AFAIK, the ECU case does not require it to be earthed in *most* Toyota's.

No there's no apparent code, although I've spent 5 minutes just looking at the check engine light seeing if there's any variation to the flashing, and it's the same 2 seconds on, 2 seconds off. Seems weird that when I put it back to where it's meant to go, the engine light re-activates. There's no loose wires in the loom, Mos has already checked this. The ECU was bolted into place with the stock ST205 ECU, but it had a special kind of mount for it which the A'PEXi doesn't use. This means it can only bolt up to one side of the original mounting bracketry in the RAV4, and even now it's not bolted up to the ECU carrier... it's just sitting there.
