Ok I got a USB - IDE Adapter so I can try fix my old HDD and so I can put PS2 games onto another HDD without opening this comp everytime I want to do so,
My problem is that I can't find where to view the HDD that has been connected through the USB, there is power to the HDD and I get the connection sound when I plug it in, and it registers USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE when plugged in, but I can't find it.
Any ideas?

It should appear in "my computer"
If it doesn't then you might need to setup a partition on it.
In Windows XP go to Control panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management
Then under storage click on Disk management.
Its all fairly easy to work out.

Nope nothing in my computer,
And can't see anything on Disk management.
And don't see how to add anything, I might have to do it the long way.

It usually backward supports stuff, but Windows has a bitch that it's not running optimally.

thats what i would have though but never used usb2 stuff on regular usb
what about jumper settings when connecting an external enclosure do these need to be in master, slave etc. or shouldnt it matter
just throwing around a few ideas

I'm running an external HDD in a case. Set to master and runs fine on both usb (case is 2, system is 1) and firewire. Mind you it's a mac so I just checked and it runs on any setting.

yeah its USB2, and the HDD i'm trying to connect is set up as slave,
Although I'm abuot to try another HDD and see if it works, if it does I think the one I'm trying now might be rooted.

Make sure the drive isn't set to cable select. Set it to single drive or master... actually it depends on the IDE-USB convertor u have... we had some at work that required setting up as above
