I bought one once for $300, it was a 1600 auto, biggest peice of shit eva. I guess if it was an RS it would be pretty good. If its a 1600 dont get it. They hardly make it up any hills man. Consider it if its a pinto 2L with 4 speed

my corolla ran dead even with a stock rs2000 when i had the stock carby on it
some of my mates have owned eskys, they're fun little cars if you can find one that's not full of rust. everyone chucks the 1300/1600 motors out and puts in a 2L pinto donk, and you can get them to go really hard if you follow a david vizard book
they're used alot as group 3j cars, so there's definately alot of knowledge and resources out there to make them handle and go well

Thanks man, but its my first car so i'm doing anything serious too it, i'd consider the pinto engine transplant if the orig engine was a POS.

They're quite nice cars. I had a Mk2 2door for a while. It had a 2l pinto, bigger cam, port & polished head, twin 40mm Delortos(It chewed the petrol) and quite a bit of stuff done to it. Seemed to go pretty hard(Nice sounding engine).I quite liked it except for the fact i spent hundreds on constantly repairing it! With mine it always seemed to have a problem, so i got rid of it and bought my rolla.
If you do get one get some anti-tramp bars or fix up the rear suspension. They use to have the worst axle tramp!
if you haven't already check this place out:

nah dude i bought it of a old lady with log books and i was the second owner. She had just lost her license cuz she was too old. It was so unreliable, the starter motor broke, had to get that fixed, the carby was effed put a kit thru it n it was still effed. 1600 is crap!!! I had to warm it up for about 5 mins everytime i drove it. I wouldnt even waste my time working that motor. Better off getting a MK2 with the 2L and 4 speed.

yeh 5 speed would go nuts. dont get me wrong they r a fun car to drive but with good power, brakes and handling , i reckon it would be a blast from the past.
Have u looked at the MK1 2doors?? I personnally think they're a better shape. They look hell hot if u drop em and put the 2 peice front chrome bars on them wit nice paint. Have u seen a white MK1 with number plates IMB05S?? SR20 conversion.

Nah i don't like the mk1's, just something about them makes them look wussy, i like the mk2 because they look street tuff with some old school rims and rubbers. I wish i did like the mk1's tho theres so many more around! Nah no p's, still L's.

Mate used to own a Mk2 Esky. 2 Door with Round lights.. was too loud, went ok, and was a blast to drive.
Then one day it caught on fire when he was driving home. It burnt to the ground.

lol, nice story. Thanks for your help guys. The only thing is, When i was thinking about first car options i said screw it, im going to get a post 1986 car so i can simply use unleaded without the fuel addetives, and all that jazz. But i can't lie i love old cars so im gunna buy one, so now im thinking maybe a KE55-30. The only thing is im not overly excited about the mid KE's, there not "tuff" enough for me i suppose, but there great cars + cheap. Are there many KE55-30's around at good prices??

I had a Mk2 1300 2 door and I recon it was one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. Sure the little motor didn't have to torque to spin the wheels on oil but it was like driving a go-kart, I only ever used the brakes at the end of the driveway.
The Mk1 2-doors are nice (my brother has 2) and would be my pick but unfortunately they are everyone elses and consequently the prices are high for a good one.
There is heaps of info around for modifications on these so you can easily get them to perform well enough. There was a Mk1 with a SR20 turbo at the drags giving yellow rolla a good run for his money, doing 12.0 or something.
You could do a lot worse than an eski for a first car.
