well my leak is coming from the back of the water pump... its been making some noise anyhow so i'm gonna get a new one.
SAME problem but when i go to toyta, i don't know exactly what car my motor is from. It always catches me out with import motors. ANyhow.. its a front sump 1jzgte.. are all the water pumps the same?? Mine has the hydro fan but i don't use it... just loop it... can i put on a soarer one .. *BOLT UP* without hassles? or what one will i get?

Go to a Lexus dealer and get a GS300 water pump (2JZ-GE), it will work with a 1JZ-GTE and it doesn't have the hydraulic pump for the engine fan.

ive just spent about half hour at toyota and some time talking to frankie on the phone... if i get this lexus pump, it won't just bolt up right?? Who has actually done the swap. For example, the non hydro pump has a different pulley to mine!!

The pump has a different pulley and also a different backing plate.
I am unsure wether the differences in the backing plates makes any difference, it may increase the tolerances that the impeler need to run sucessfully.
I bought a soarer pump, backing plate and pulley secondhand to do the swap.

I know a guy who put a GS300 pump in his 1JZ and it worked fine, but I don't know if he had to do any mods to make it work. If Pete says a Soarer pump will work though, that's just as good.

Oh yeah, good idea on the electric WP. They work tops if you keep them away from the engine.
