Diff Question...LSD Mon, 18 November 2002 10:22 Go to next message
I have to ask to satisfy curiosity, is a little bit of diff play, maybe a few degrees? Ok? Or is it the sign of mashness for the 1J?

Another, anyone have a Traction Control Computer they dont want or from a wreck??? I want to see if i can get it working in the swap...I'm a nut...

it depends where you measure it from. if you are just holding on to the tailshaft and checking it there then you will get a little bit more that you expect as it is getting the play from all of the gears in the diff and not just the crownwheel and pinion. to measure it properly you need to set up a dial gauge on the crownwheel and hold the pinion still and check the play there .13 of a mm is about norm. racers have a bit more to allow for heat expansion etc etc but in a road car .13 is good

I posted a website here like 1 or 2 months ago. It had extensive pics on rear diff rebuilding, slash setting/measurement...the works.
Just keep on ploughning the threads, it's there.
