Plasctic in my AFM? Tue, 19 November 2002 00:35 Go to next message
Embarassed Well i just finished frabricating a 3" bracket out of PVC to fit a Pod filter to my 5M-GE only to realise that if this thing cracked under pressure and bits went into the throttle body, efi etc I'd be faaaarrrrrcccct!

So can anyone suggest who on the gold coast could make up an alloy/steel job and how much I'd be looking at paying??

any help greatly appreciated

Andrew

(I can't believe I nearly used the plastic home job Razz Doh!)

u can buy pre-made steel brackets for around $30

i got mine from rare spares, dunno if u have that in qldthou.

needs minor mods etc.

im gonna try and utilise my airbox filter in a pod type filter situation so that will be interesting what i end up making Smile

Cheers mate Very Happy

Are you talking about using the OEM box to force air into pod/shield from hot engine air?

If so, keep us posted, i might do the same

Well ive got a supra so i dont know about the cressida, but the supra has a biggish round airbox. So i conntacted K&N and got the flow rates for the drop in replacement filter 710CFM!!!!!!

Lots more than some pods flow!

so im gonna make a sealed enclosure in the corner, and all but cut away the airbox, but leave strips to hold it in, with 4 inch cold air induction ala 100mm pvc plumbing piping

as it is now its much better than stock, with a hole cut in the bottom of the airbox, however it doesnt line up properly with the CAI. So by almost removing the airbox and pressurising it, it should work a treat Smile

i finish exams on thursday and this little idea should be underway next week. As well as a stage 2 CAI design (NEED MORE RAM AIR!!)Will keep u posted and take pics.

Sounds like we've both got pretty much the same set up.
Contacted a K&N distributor for price for drop in replacement
-$165 Mad
And the same place is selling pods for $49.
So lets see, $30 for the adapter, $50 for the pod VS $165...
I think I'll stick with the pod, esp. since I've already made up the heat shroud and brackets.
Put up the pics when your done, its always good to see different peoples approaches, thats the whole reason I joined this forum.
Smile

no worries will do

yeah the drop in was $150 for me vs $89 for a k&n pod, but the drop in has twice the filter area so i stuck with that.

my last car cost me $199 for a nice 02 rush pod, so i figured this was acceptable.

massive intake revision + interior swap = next weeks work Smile
