oil pressure sensor different over 18r generations?

hello
just wondering if the oil pressure sensor is different for various 18r engines.
initial setup: 18rc block, 18rgeu head, oil pressure sensor at front (unknown origin) next to timing cover, i believe a standard 18rc oil filter eaasembly (long stalk up the centre)
rebuilt setup 18rc block (different), 18rgeu head, oil pressure sensor (from the rebuilt 18rc block) in an 18rgeu oil filter assembly.
the initial sensor made the pressure guage read like it shoulld in the ra40 initially, but with this 'new' one, the pressure reading goes off the scale. before i even crank it.
one thing i did before putting the filter on was to put as much oil as i could in the oil filter assembly after rebuilding the bottom end to hope to get as much of the oil into the system on first crank as possible.
obvious solution for me is to use the old sensor to see if that reading will cause the guage to go off the scale as well, then i know it is because i put oil into the assembly, but i am curious (because i like the look of the new sensor compared to the old sensor...it's smaller), are there different sensors that can be found on 18r's

my RA23 (circa 1976) with a 18RC used a pressure switch sensor - whereas the RA40 (1981) 18RC uses at pressure sensor to drive the gauge.
the later model version is a much larger sensor.
so.. as i finally get to answer your question - yes, there are different sensors used - dependant entirely on the car, not the engine.

does that mean the sensor would cause a different reading on the ra40 dash. ie. the one i just put in just gives an 'on' or 'off' reading (whatever that implies) which is why the guage just skyrockets, whereas the other one was a variable reading?

yup - one is a switch (to turn light on), the other a variable resistance device (so move gauge).

yeah same here... ive go just a oil light and the switch used was plumbed into the oil filter assebly.
broke the assembly and was told the rg and rc items are the same... i figured some previous owner must have tapped the fitting themselves.
as far as i know switch and presssure switches mount on the bottom right front of the block....mine is currently blocked off.
i can photo and give dimensions of my switch if you like.
cheers
Nathan
PS when the assembly point was used the light always flicked between gearchanges and stayed on solid after 30mins driving...i dont think this is the best place to geta reading....especially when there is a pressure bypass fitting in the assembly afaik.
