wiring up fuel pump Fri, 29 April 2005 09:17 Go to next message
hey guys would it be alright to run an electric low pressure pump (carby) from a relay and just have a switch in the dash to turn it on?

does a fuel pump have to pump more the harder the engine goes or does it supply one pressure and that pressure supplies the engine throughout the rev range?

if it cant be wired through a switch how would i go about doing. i want to do my carbs conv very soon but this is the last thing stopping me.

cheers for any help

no worries with a switch to turn your pump on and off. Just make sure you run it through a relay.

To be safe (and legal) a fuel pump MUST turn off when the motor stops.

If you have an accident, and your fuel pump is dodgily wired, it can pump fuel all over the car.
Bad news.

Hook it up to the START part of your car, and an oil pressure switch.
So when the motor stalls, the pump stops.
