You could run a 7MGE on a 5ME computer, but you would need to modify a 5ME dizzy to go where the 7MGE dizzy is and you would need to use all the 5ME sensors and AFM. Clearly some features would be disabled, like the knock sensor (no input on 5M ECU) and the TVIS, if fitted (no output on ECU), but it would certainly run and probably OK after some tuning of the AFM. The dizzy mods are mostly machining, and cost about $130.

Yep, that's exactly what I did when I put the 6M-GE in my Supra - modified the old 5M-E distributor to suit and swapped over all the sensors. It ran fine like that but was heavy on fuel thanks to no oxygen sensor.
Later I converted to the more sophisticated 5M-GE ECU and I gained a bit of power and got better economy at the same time, and I imagine the 7M-GE engine management would be better again, so you should definitely consider using the 7M electronics if possible.

gimme a few more weeks and i'll be able to do/help u with the conversion
all wiring and ecu would be the only realistic way to go
