so.. cars are going under the house for a couple of years..
plan is to try and preserve them a bit.
fishoil.. in sills, seams etc? what brands are good? aerosol or tin?
give car a good clean (remove dirt mud etc) and then just polish? any other surface treatments?

LOL cars will be rebuilt mechanically before use, so it's more body oriented....
hmmm...might be good to remove DRUM brakes anyway more of an incentive to change them later...
anyone have any suggestions as to brands? or are they all much of a muchness?

Put a trickle charger on the battery and leave the battery connected.
Maybe leave your interior light on or something so that there is still power running through the body.
If you take the battery out the car will rust 10 times as fast as the battery and current passing through the chassis helps to slow down the rusting process.

What.. You've never done it?
Hey Stuart, have a bit of a search around the forums. I think Gold28 was asking similar questions a little while ago, and there may be some other good replies in there.
There has been at least one other thread about this that I remember seeing before, but can't remember who posted that one sorry..

lanolin based oil
from a spray pack is good, ie. lanox, lanoguard etc
it is very good stuff for preventing corrosion
commonly used to prevent bores, crank etc, rusting

it might pay to ask the RACQ (NRMA in NSW?) how they do their long-term storage as they have it down to a fine art...
this is what i know to do...
-clean car thoroughly, borrow a cheap pressure spray to get rid of all dirt-n-shit - repair any paint removal before moving to step b
-car on blocks to keep weight of tyres/suspension parts
-fuel tank near full
-coolant system flushed and coolant replaced with anti-corrosion coolant
-dont know about oil??
-i thought RACQ removed the battery, kept it on trickle then started the car with it once a month - but Toobs suggestion is at odds with that
-run the car once a month to keep oil/coolent in circulation and to prevent belts/hoses from going brittle - rotate tyres as well if able otherwise excess rust will build up
-cockroach and insect baits thru-out car, tape up air inlets/outlets
-if under the house, then wrap with a car cover (with some stand-offs to keep material off the paint) then cover that with a tarp, either way you need it to breath to allow moisture to escape but prevent excess dust/moisture finding its way in - a car-shade things might make this easy using it like an indoor tent
-make any cover easy to remove and not prone to flapping about in heavy winds
-replace brake/clutch fluids before storage and have persons looking after car work the pedals when doing the monthly 'turn-over' of the engine
-drain the windscreen sprayer bottle and any attached lines, cover all openings
-fisholene and lanoguard come in spray cans - helps with getting up in to sills, behind bumper bars, under battery shelf, etc
-inox (spell?) have a lubricant/grease spray that stays workable in extreme environments - spary over suspension and drivetrain parts that have a join to a wearing face (e.g. uni joints, ball joints)
-if not intending to rotate tyres, then also cover brake parts in some kind of lube/grease spray
-spray hoses/piping in the engine bay with some kind of silicon protector to help stop hoses perishing or going brittle
-see above point for window/door rubbers and dashboard

Those stretchy ones they've been advertising recently could be used to stick over the aircon vents.
