ive got a 20v corolla and i just in countering this problem
when getting off in 1st a loud scraping/grating noise happens around the gearbox seems like it wants 2 fall out
i havnt taken it 2 a mechanic yet i just wanna know what u's think

it also does it when going to 2nd and some other gears too but not as bad as 1st and 2nd

do your self a favour sorse a gze lsd box save yourself alot of cash sumthing has droped out in a big way 1st thaught would be a sincro ring or worse what sort of punishment did it cop ????? if you want to get adventurase drop out the sump plug on the box and see what sort of metal is in the oil ... then you will no how fucked it realy is

the night be4 i was pretty much thrashing the car driving high rpm
but that next morning i drove around 4 abit shopping and that and it was fine until on later that night when the problem happened
wouldnt it be stuff that morning straight away??

how much may i lookin at if i decide 2 recon the gearbox or get a 2nd hand one ???

i think its safe to say ud be looking at upwards of $1000 for the rebuild, depending on what gets replaced, but it sounds like you wont get off light in that department.
Best option would be the second hand box.

Drain your oil, inspect it to see whats in it
take the sump plug out, drain the oil, then take the whole sump off, some of the bigger metal chunks n shit might still be around the edges...

do this BEFORE you think of getting a new box...

after you drain it, bung in some redline oil or something... drive it around and see if its any better...

yes there shit as. ive snapped 4 in my life time on my old 82 twinky. and im also replacing the one in my ae92. and might i add i was not thrashing it. fukin shittest syncros ever to come out in a car every single rolla ive seen manages 2 crunch gears.

oh and yes im pissed off after 3hrs of labour i found the box i got dusnt work Mad Mad Mad

they dont tend to last to long once theyve been crunched a few times. The gze gearboxes are alot stronger from what im told.

A few of my mates drive the ae82 twin cams and they had crunching gearboxes so my mate who is a service mechanic reccomended they switch to automatic transmission oil worked a treat and they get thrashed regularly at wakefield no problems.

bloody all this happened coz i was racing this 180sx which i chopped hehe


if i replace the gearbox do i have 2 use a 20v gearbox or can i use a ae92 gearbox ???

i paid $220 for that c56 gearbox thats in it from melbourne

hard to source the c56, pm anthony kellam he might be able to help

i just took the car 4 a drive just then
wasnt as bad as be4
but when the car revs went 2 4000-5000 rpm
i hear metal granding i think
i need 2 go 2 a mechanic and see what he thinks
didnt get 2 go 2day had overtime till 7
hope i finish early tomorrow so i can go

well without them your car wont drive Cool

there 2 shafts one on each side(pasengar and drivers side) that go from the gearbox to the wheel hub and drive the front wheels (in your application)

the car is fixed
gearbox is fine still
it was the engine mounts
the back one , the bolt came out halfway
im happy now
