5M fuel economy. Sun, 01 May 2005 15:21 Go to next message
Well, after a somewhat nasty accident involing my mate's car, with Him, BLACK_JZA and my self in it, and some stupid woman running a red light in a Nissan Patrol with a bullbar, his Ford Corsair is now a write off. With the money he'll get from the write off check he needs a new car. He's been planning on getting something to install a 1J into in the future anyway, so he's considering a cheap MA61 for sale on carsales, it's in his budget. But, what he'd like to know is the rough fuel economy of a 5M.
We tried searching, both the internet and toymods, but given we're both still kinda shook up from the crash (happened tonight) we're not having much luck.

So I'm after a rough Litre / KM ratio of a stocko 5M, I think it's the 5M-GE (it's an 83 MA61).

around 400-500 per tank for a good fresh motor.
0.15-0.12L per kilometre

depending on condition it could be much worse,
250l per tank,0.24l per kilometre

I agree... On my fresh rebuilt 5M-E motor I get only 250-300kms average around town and 400km on the highway...

It's not overly great Rolling Eyes That is why I don't drive it around all the time till I can figure out what I can do to not to drink much Nod (Besides swapping the motor)

* Swapping an ECU and AFM as soon as I can pick it up...

around town, using the words "5M" and "fuel-economy" is an oxymoron.

there's a big difference when out on the hwy, even when the emmission hardware is disabled and the TPS connector is accidently knocked loose (no deccel fuel cut).

a stock '83 supra would be a 5M not 5me if still in factory form (well, mine is).

What they said. IMO you should only buy an MA61 if you're planning to do an engine conversion pretty much straight away.

My old 6MGE with W57 and 4.1 (read 3000rpm @ 100kph) used to get about 11L/100km out on the open road.
Would have been much better with a W58 and 3.73

Around town I never cared.

With a decent mix of highway crusing and bootin it around town sorta stuff, I managed 500kms to a full tank of premium. I was pretty happy with that from the 5m-ge.

with a shitty, slipping auto transmission behind a 5MGE I get around about 100Kms for a $20 fill-up.. doing short trips usually in traffic.
Not very good, but the vapor trail of unburnt gasoline that follows my MA61 like a big stinky dragon tail makes me think it isnt running the 'ideal' air:fuel ratios.

in my supra, i get around 550k pure highway driving, and around 450 with medium foot town work. if i stonk it everywhere, then the fuel economy dissapears at an alarming rate, but normal driving, its not 'that' bad.
this is 150XXX k's, no freshen ups.
