1uz-fe, overall width with exhaust manifolds Mon, 02 May 2005 00:23 Go to next message
How wide is the 1uz-fe lexus engine including the exhaust manifolds? The length will be no problem nor will the height. Have 350 Chevy engine in there now but am interested in DOHC v8 as a change......Thnx Laughing

Which exhaust manifolds?

With the blockhuggers its no wider.
With the LS400 ones they add about 3" to the width, possibly more.

Guess I am stuck with using an LS1 G.M. after all. That may not be so bad as it may be cheaper overall. Already have 4l60e tranny box in there.

Nah I wouldn't bother with an LT5. 3UZ however....

Anyway the widest measurement is about 650mm. That's really only a basic measurement. You really have to drop one in to test it.

Eeeewwwww .

What a horrible box. Cheap and works, but horrible.

Like the look of the LT5 though .....

Yeh, 650mm is about right. If your suspension towers are over 700mm apart you shouldnt have any problems for width.
If you are tight for exst manifold space, use the UZS131 manifolds as they are very small.

See here for fairly accurate measuments of a 1UZ:

Boy o Boy, that is one big chunk of engine, I have a kit car called a SEBRING MX, it is styled after an Austin Healey fron the sixties, in comparing those 2 in the picture i can see that there is no way that the lovely Lexus will fit. My car is about the size of a Miata so you can get an idea of its dimensions.

Maybe a horrible tranny but it gets my car to a speed of 110 in the quarter mile and cruises at 35 miles per gallon on a trip. If I wanted a manual tranny then that was an option. The 4L60e has a shift kit in it and that is not my LT5 in the picture, mine is a mild 350 with some goodies and as reliable as they come. Of course it help when the car weighs only 2450 pounds, sorry too old for the metric stuff.

I know that anything can be put in anything with enough patience, money and ability but to put the 1UZ in my car would require over-the rail headers for sure and those alone would be enpensive. I built my car myself ans as it was i needed block hugger headers. The frame uses upper a-arms and not strut towers, i have seen some of the swaps that have been done on some of the supras, cressidas etcetera and they have a lot of width in the tower area.

Remember its a 90° V8, so it does slim down a lot towards the bottom of the block.
You may just have to mount it a little higher to fit.

The crown exst manifolds are about the same size as those modifed ones in the photos above.
