hi all,

I have just bought a 4agze for my ae82 hatch and it has a blown head gasket,i was wondring if it is worth putting a copper headgasket rather then the standed.

I was planing to change the crank pully to a blitz one in a fue months. If anyone has changed the pullys or a friend has could you give me an idear on what is best

thanks!

Copper head gaskets are not good if you plan on not rebuilding the engine offten because the copper reacts with aluminum you don't want that. They can also be a hassle to fit you need to kneel the copper first so it goes soft if you want to run a good head gasket get a multiple layer steel head gasket there very good. HKS should make one.

Yeah there's a few aftermarket metal HGs available for the 4A, HKS prolly have the largest range in relation to different thicknesses, ranging from about .8mm to 2.0mm.
I picked up one for about $150.

After all that though, the standard GZE HG is a pretty good thing, and comes in under $100.

Seriously though, Greenline stock HKS gaskets for the 2jz. They're not cheap though. I worked to out to be $380 or so for a stopper type metal hg. That's also NOT including shipping.

Eddie.

ED ma61 I think you should read these about coppr and aluminum just for starters.

Hory Shitte.
Is the difference worth that much cash? WTF does it do over and above a normal gasket? (excuse my ignorance)
HKS are always way overpriced too, surely there would be cheaper options that are just as good?

You can use them to reduce compression for turboing an NA car, or for a turbo car I spose. Also, they'll hold up alot longer than a stock one, especially on 7M's Wink

How much HP are you pushing in your 2j? unless it's a huge ammount, I doubt' you'll 'need' to change it, but there is nothing wrong with erring on the side of caution. I've never heard anything bad about stock 1j/2j HG's.

yeah im running a HKS metal headgasket, cant remember the thickness but it reduced the compression ratio which i also cant remember the figures for. its supposed to make it 'safer' to run more boost. my gze ran 15psi on the s/c for the most part of 10 years, and has been runing between 12-18psi for just over a year with the turbo. all is good, there may be a SLIGHT leak of oil from the HG if at all.
