Getting a Microtech 2ndhand

Hello,
Ive been thinking about getting a 2nd hand computer for my 4agte and there are a few secondhand ones for sale.
Now if they were run off a diffrent engine, can you get a base map for the 4agte and reload the microtech yourself (or engine tuner in the area)?? or does it need to be sent to microtech to be resetted??
I had in mind a LT8 which doesnt have the inbuilt ignitor, but comes with a seperate ignitor for that computer. So can i use this computer/ignitor to run my standard MAP GZE coil packs??
thanks for your help.

fuk we just had this conversation afew threads ago
i would never buy a 2nd hand microptech unless it was of an exact engine
otherwise u could be wasting yr mnoney
u need same dizzy signals
same number of coils
same type of ignitor
just save for another month and buy a new one
they are bit faster in the programin side
so are a better unit these days
for 1100 bucks u cant go wrong
why are most people on forums so tight asses

Most people want about $800 for a 2nd hand microtech.
So, take that $800, add $150-$250 to get it reprogrammed to your motor/sensors, and you are at about $1000.
So, $1000 for a 2nd hand ecu, with a 2nd hand loom.
Sounds like a pretty shit deal to me when new ones are $1100.
And all the 'L' series are reprogrammable by Microtech.
'M' series are not.

Gidday
Look at the $ closely. I got a second hand LX8 faily cheap. The cost of reprograming to my engine would normally have cost $70. Computer from a 7mgte going to a 1ggte. 'Cos I was making lots of changes to the 1ggte, like single turbo, 6 coil pack, EB throttle body, different idle control etc, I also had hardware changes made to the LTX8. Total cost $200. I think that this was real cheap considering it had been configured to the bits I wanted to use, not those supported by the manufacturer
Talk to your microtech dealer and get the facts for your particular situation then make the decision.

id respect and appreciate the mans experience and industry know-how.
sideshow deals with this sort of thing for a living, giving advice/help like this on the forums on a weekly basis would get frustrating. its often related to previous topics covered in detail.
just do a search and read evrything that has been discussed before.
