more steering angle on AE86 Thu, 05 May 2005 04:09 Go to next message
i read a post some time ago explaining a certain combination of pwr steer arms, manual rack, this that and the other..that will give you a little more angle over stock..

the setup that came in my car..
No pwr steering, it is a JDM 86' ae86..no badges on it, no air, no pwr mirrors..nothing, just a 4AGE with a T series rear end

now i had a little bingle ages ago and needed to replace the passenger side control arm, with an aussie one, i noticed the steering knuckles were the same, angle, length etc etc..

so what do i need to do to get the slight increase in steering angle/response too maybe?

i have a pair of RA40 control arms that i'm doing bushes ball joints etc in..and i was wondering it i could use those steering knuckles for anything? they are a wee bit longer, and on a different angle..but which side does the angle have to change? more to the inside or the outside..

If the knuckles are longer then dont use em...

Longer arm on the steering knuckle will do a few things...
Decrease lock angle that you can get with your rack
Decrease the responsiveness
And decrease the amount of ackerman you get, (assuming that the tie rod pick up is extended along the same imaginary line made by the original tierod joint and the steering axis which it may or may not be) ...this is bad imo

See if you can get some power steering arms for an ra60 (I think you can get them from repco or something but I dont shurely know this Razz )

I believe that this information is correct but am prepared to stand corrected Smile

I got my AE86 powersteering arms from ebay, Canada also.

They are a bit shorter than the regular AE86 arms, and make the steering much quicker, and more steering angle also. Sometimes the inside of my tyre rubs on the frame, only just.
