a 3tgte is a turbo motor why would you want to use na pistons? maybe if you deck the hight of the pistons then i dont see why you cant use them. does any one elce have any idea????

factory cast pistons blow more often than a hooker in thailand, so i reakon the 3tc flycuts would too.

factory 3T GTE has a comp ratio of 7.8:1
Running forgies to suit a 3TC is fine.
If you get the flat top 87mm 3TC forged pistons from Wiseco, they have sufficiently deep valve notchs.
You could mill (or turn) the comp dome down on a forged NA replacement piston in order to tailor the CR if it came to it.
One would be left asking why?
Lesson for today - flycutting is a milling process using a single point cutting tool. When decking cylinder heads and blocks for example "a flycutter" is used.

they are aries 89mm forged pistons. i was just seeing if i had to do anything to the pistons as they are for single cam 3tc and not the twin cam 3tgte. so is there any differance, or can i use these forged 3tc pistons in the 3tgteu without any hassels?

just check the piston to valve clearance by using some plasticine. Place a nice disc of plasticine on the piston top (about 3-4mm thick) dummy assemble the engine and trun it over. take the head off and check where the vavle has touched. Cut throught the plasticine in the thinnest area (using a plastic knife) and measure how much clearance that you have (3.0mm is a good safe clearance).
Having said all of that - finding blocks that will go out to 89mm is not all that easy.

it depends on the psiton design. I tried this recently on a weisco set. the dome was too thin. I ended up buying a custom set.

terryobeirne - good point. According to something that I read piston crown thickness should be >6% of the bore dia.
