lol can it?
hell yea, its been quite a few times
you can also do a gen2 3sge from the sw20 mr2 into a st162
and there is currently someone doing a gen3 3sge conversion
so take your pick with the st162
do you own a st162?

I think he's asking about the 4wd conversion as well. Not just the 3sgte. From what I gathered though, the 165 and 162 might have different floor castings? Too much mucking around to make it AWD.

If it is too much stuffing around I will just by a 1990 model Celica SX instead.

Don't get me wrong, you can easily enough put the turbo engine into the car. You won't be able to get it to be an AWD vehicle though. Plenty of peeps have shoved the 3sgte in and its fairly straight forward. Its just no one converts it to 4wd at the same time thats all.

As i recall from reading a thread about changing the st162 drive line to 4wd, it might be possible, but it's gonna be damn expensive and definately not worth it. Better off buying a GT4.

Anythings possible.. Over the years i've seen people convert all sorts of cars that didn't even have 4wd running gear in and got it working..
Bascially it would take quite extensive workings on the chassis which will just cost way too much, someone mentioned around the 10k-15k mark...
When u could sell your car, buy a gt4 st165 (with awd and 3sgte standard) for about $7000-9000. U'd pay less insurance, less in engineering costs (which would set u back a pretty penny) and yeah be a fuckload cheaper!!!

Can't remember where I read it, but an AWD conversion can EASILY be completed in 4 steps:
1. Open bonnet, remove radiator cap.
2. Remove FWD Celica.
3. Install GT4 Celica.
4. Reinstall radiator cap, close bonnet.

162 and 165 have different floor plans, forget about making a 162 AWD I say just buy a gt4 if that's what you want!
