1990 MR2 Turbo upgrades Tue, 10 May 2005 11:13 Go to next message
What bolt on kits are available? I've been trying to search on google.. but no avail?

Looking for a good Turbo upgrade.. something close to 150kw-180kw at the wheels. looking for more midrange then top end as it will be for circuit/handling.

Your not looking hard enough then Smile

180rwkw can be had with the stock turbo and a few simple mods. Surely you want more then that?

If you want quicker spool then hunt down a CT20B off a gen3 motor.

lance is on the money, easy to get the power out, get a aftermarket computer a good tuner and high flow your turbo and do full 3" exhaust including dump pipe to a hi flow cat n straight thru cannon style muffler, pod filter and cool air intake set up and an intercooler water spray system setup. after this you couldnt expect any less then 190 - 200rwkw. and if you got less your tunner is crap.

when i did high flow and IC and EMS + 3" exhaust i, pod filter and cool i got 190 something rwkw @ 19 PSI so its very achive able. bolt on kits are good for making alot more power, use what you have if thats all the power you want.

well crap loads of black smoke out the exhaust when ya hit boost, will know for sure once i get it on the dyno but i wouldnt be surprsed if the A/F is sumthing like 10:1 at WOT
i know its not a corolla but its a pig on fuel to, like i cant get more than about 320k's out of a tank, city driving, not thrashing it but not driving like a granny either.

I had that problem when there was a boost leak. Ran fine when off boost, but when boosting, air would leak out through a hose that wasn't clamped properly and made it run pig rich. Clouds of black smoke behind me going uphills Razz

Every 3SGTE I've seen on the dyno, with stock management, gets 10.0 or lower AFR when they come on boost.

Actually no I do know of one which didn't but it's a Gen3 so the management is completely different.

http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm

Have a look at this power primer. Now take it as a grain of salt but he goes thru and explains where power can be made and what you need to do to make that power.

As MR. 2 has said, thats basically what you need to do to get close to 180rwkw.

Intake,Exhaust,Intercooler,Boost,ECU. And if you ask me, those are logical upgrades before even looking at a new turbo.
